on-again,
off-again saga of Pentax's monstrous 30 megapixel 645 Digital might have a happy ending after all. The Japanese company has put together a little teaser site for a forthcoming shooter, and the silhouette above carries the unmistakable shape of a digital SLR, though conclusions about what particular camera it may be are still hard to reach. We can look at Canon's
recent unveiling of the T2i as a sign that the prosumer DSLR segment is ripe for a refresh and prognosticate a new
K-series shooter, but that would be nowhere near as exciting as getting a spectacularly chunky and expensive camera to add to our wishlists. To support 645D theorists, we can point you to
Pentax's earlier assertion that the shooter is coming in 2010, which goes nicely with the new promises of "a large ultra-high resolution image sensor, a new world."

Whatever it is, it would still probably way-way-way-way out of my budget.
Could be a full frame dSLR ... but much more likely the digital 645. The silhouette is inconclusive.
The camera has its lens hood on..it might be a point-and-shoot camera.. just speculating.

It's maybe a good move by Pentax. There are too much competition from N/C in 35mm full frame; but in 645 or even 67 medium format, Pentax can take good use of their old but of very good reputation lenses

There have been many rumors, based on supposedly good sources, that the Pentax 645D will cost $6,500 USD. If that's true, I'd expect Pentax to sell many of these.

Medium format digital from Pentax - that would be nice. Especially for their old film users who still have lenses. I would assume they'll be compatible. I can also see this being the first real affordable medium format digital if they can do it cheaply enough. Their K1000 was the first 35mm film SLR for many folks, kudos if they can pull it off for a medium format digital.
