I don't get why they don't just give us an ETA. Sure, it upsets people when you push it back but at least we have a day to look forward to. The light at the end of the tunnel so to speak. But to just make us chase a carrot endlessly is a bit tiring.

Rooting allows you to install custom roms and add functions not normally allowed like wifi tethering for example. This site also explains the advantages of rooting in greater detail.

Complete and utter control of the hardware. That's also the downside. Nothing to prevent you from absolutely bricking your phone.

There really is no reason to recant the update info if it was accurate. If it was going to be delayed, they could have just said that.

My guess is that they posted it, heard some complaints about the aforementioned features being absent, and are now adding them.
