I think most people will find this machine insufficent as a primary computer, whereas most netbooks can function sufficiently by themselves.

Why? For one, the 16GB disk size won't even be enough for most people's music collections, let alone photos, movies and applications. The computer itself won't be enough to power games more demanding than those that run on mobile devices such as the iPhone.

However, this thing does have a touch screen and is more mobile than most of the netbooks. IMO, this is more of a "netbook" than those "mini-laptops" out there. If the price is low enough, this will be a perfect secondary device for mobility. Google created Android to capture more of the mobile internet user base, not it would be scaled up to netbooks without any smartphone features (voice, GPS, always-on networking, touchscreen). Android was built to handle screen resolutions up to 800x480 (or maybe 800x600?), which at the time of release was forward looking considering the screen resolutions of smartphones right now. But Google didn't build Android with any consideration that it would end up in a 10" netbook.

This is more an issue with ARM-CPUs being pushed hard for netbooks. Because of the lack of popularity of custom Linux builds on the Asus EEE PC series netbooks, Intel started working on Moblin for Atom CPUs. Hence, ARM CPU netbook manufacturers are looking to Android for their OS, which makes sense given what's available.

If anything, the increasing interest in using Android for larger form factor devices is a reason for Google to make Chrome OS.
