I can't find the thread anymore, but on the forums they had found Apple's 2004 advertising expenditure of around $450 million IIRC. It was greater than HP, Dell, and Acers combined, even though the three together outsold Apple ~ 25:1. To be fair though, Apple was marketing iTunes, iPhones, an OS, etc... still, it explains the "Apple tax" a bit! =p

Ducman69

Comments on

@LAY
apple has $50 billion ready in cash...

xconan

Comments on

@Ducman69

that's what it comes down to. people can talk about what the iPhone can and can't do all day long but the fact is, in the public eye (average consumer), it is the holy grail of phones (along with everything else Apple sells). the media coverage is staggering for any announcement Apple makes and as long as they have that, they will continue to sell. the average consumer will pretty much buy whatever the tv tells them to and that's where Apple knowing how to hype and market the hell out of there products is the key to their success (also their products working like they are supposed to is an added bonus as well).

i love my Touch Pro 2 and my Zune 80 and my Windows 7 computer. but the fact that when i whip them out around people, the common comment is "what's that?" really explains, to me at least, what the bigger picture is here.

SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt)

Comments on

@SoCoolCurt "the average consumer will pretty much buy whatever the tv tells them to" That would explain my closet full of shamwow, mighty mend-it, and snuggies.

If only Apple would tone down the snobby hipster push and get a a highly caffeinated guy to shout CALL NOW at me, I'd have crumbled.

Ducman69

Comments on

@ummmwhat

Sorry, but most apps in the apple app store are half-baked web apps.
Sorry, but the iPhone OS does choke often (that's the reason apple will not allow multitasking).
Sorry but iPhone 3G had the exact same problem with 3G signal as the Nexus One has been having. Do you not realize how long they been working on WM7? It was originally on a roadmap to have been released like early-2009! If they take any longer on it, it just means their management is crap, and needs to be fired. WM6 came out in 2007, and since then MS has just given it better memory management and reskinned it twice (it is worth noting that 3rd parties such as Point UI, SBP, and HTC have all put forth more efforts and significantly stronger efforts at UI improvements than MS has in the same amount of time.

Chris

Comments on

@Luxury Guy To me that is a good thing, it means they are serious about getting it right and ironing out all the bugs even if it takes longer to launch the product. Winmo needs more than just a face lift and finger touch friendliness, it needs much work down to it's core and optimization so you get more stability and better resource management. Even the mighty HD2 falters with Winmo. That should tell you something. If they rebuilt it from scratch that would suffice but it is unrealistic, I just hope MS didn't go the cheap route this time. I really do hope they get it right because that means more competition.

Shaka

Comments on

@Eternity WM7 is already as overdue and welcome as W7 was, and hopefully will be as great and well received. =)

I'm rooting for sooner rather than later, and will hold off purchasing even though I'm out of contract now.

Ducman69

Comments on

Yes!
