Not to mention the apps for it still aren't compatible across all 3 desktops. And after not updating the desktop version for a long time, they move on to the smartphone platforms? Yeah. Have fun when apps don't work.<br><br>Not to mention this thing is too reminiscent of java, except that it's faster. It could be really cool. Bad examples can be found anywhere.  Maybe a better question in this case is "why is Apple (Steve) so fixated on keeping other languages OFF of its mobile platforms?"  No J2ME, no Flash, and no multitasking. They support W7 and (in all likelihood) will support Win 7 Series, it's just that it wont have flash at launch. One of the many beefs I had with Windows Mobile was how it was at the discretion of your carrier AND your device manufacturer whether or not you got the latest OS updated. Usually you didn't, no matter how capable your phone.<br><br>Android is starting to look the same, even for features that just about every Android device can handle.<br><br>Every iPhone OS release has so far worked on every iPhone OS device, and been made available for every iPhone OS device at the same time.<br><br>Back on topic, if Adobe's proposed iPhone features in CS5 involve creating an app that uses AIR, I am all for it. The app will have to be developed to work specifically on the iPhone, or it will die on its arse. Maybe some leverage too, but that's a less widely-held belief that I've heard. And Jobs was of the opinion that HTML5 with the canvas and video elements can cover the main uses cases of Flash. It's more likely a secondary objective, if one at all (again, downplaying it, not endorsing). If you could play free flash games in the browser on your iPad, why would you buy games from the store.  If you could watch Flash videos in the browser for free, why would you buy videos or songs from iTunes? Hulu and it's content providers are in no rush to adopt a standard where I can right click on the video and download it. The same reason why there's a renewed interest in qt. We're not just talking video streaming here. We're dealing with proper applications and a markup language whose specifications aren't even finalized is not the solution for it. Also it's not open like java is.  AIR is a proprietary system.
