By intercepting the beam with your hand, you're triggering the pre-programmed pitch sequence.  You can't actually CHOOSE what pitch to play, only when it's triggered.<br><br>The theremin is an actual instrument that allows you to change pitch AND rhythm. I tried it at the store and with a good set of speakers in can surprisingly keep you entertained for a while.<br><br>Its expensive and they sell sound packs separately. :(<br><br>They had a bunch that weren't even music, they were just sounds.  My favorite was a thunderstorm.  You pass your hand over certain beams and you create thunder or wind or heavy rain.
