Uh... How is their sense of design awful? Well, maybe it's the fact that they're taking cell phones back to the 80's with the hard-edged brick design they seem to be incorporating into all of their new phones.

The build quality on the low end Motos is seriously lacking. There are some neat features in them but over all they lack the serious nature of the droid.

I don't think the design of it is that bad. I just have a problem with a return to plastic painted to look like metal. But all monthly plans don't cost the same, do they?

I know in the US it's a bit more difficult to choose a plan independently of the phone, because carriers use different technologies, but still.. this requirement for a "smartphone plan" is absolutely ridiculous and a ripoff.

I'm using a smart phone on something like a $20 monthly plan (the cheapest I could find on any carrier with some data and everything else) and always buy my phones elsewhere. For me, going with a $60 plan just to get the phone subsidized would be way more expensive in the long run.
My provider doesn't even know what kind of phone I use and it shouldn't. It's none of its business. Well if you are comparing this phone to another smartphone on VZ, than the initial price matters.
