On another note, the sensor size is small, so unless you are a casual photographer, you will not want to use it. I advise you to look at the entry level DSLR option, even a D3000 photo will be better than a P&S.

I probably would too, but it's a completely different kind of camera! That's like saying you would take an Olympus E450 over this any day.

When can we highlight some numbers that relate to image quality? Obviously compacts will always be handicapped by their smaller sensors, but within that limitation they could be doing much, much better than they are now in terms of IQ. Doesn't seem like it would be that hard for a respected name like Nikon to create a marketing campaign that raises awareness of IQ and builds demand for a 6-megapix compact with decent dynamic range...

I really hate how all these high-end point & shoots still have the same tiny sensor that the low-ends have. I always thought the big selling point of these high end p&s superzooms is that it's supposed to be a camera for photo hobbyists that do not want to lug around a full dslr and camera bag. Personally I find the #x system perfectly understandable, as I'm sure it makes more sense to the majority of people who don't understand the #mm system and that this camera is aimed at.
