Kids lose crap all the time so the guy might have "lost" it then remembered where it was but they turned on the webcam to locate it and saw him doing something dumb, etc.<br><br>"The suit does not say if his laptop had been reported stolen, and Young said the litigation prevents him from disclosing that fact. He said the district never violated its policy of only using the remote-activation software to find missing laptops. "Infer what you want," Young said.<br><br>The remote activations helped the district locate 28 of the 42 missing computers, Young said. First, and foremost, a loss must occur. Next, the loss must be reported to loss prevention. Then, and only then, should a loss prevention employee look up the unit's serial number and make an attempt to recover the property reported lost or stolen. If there was no report of a loss, they had ZERO justification for their activities.<br><br>It would still be considered unacceptable use of the remote enable on the camera for the very fact that this is a GOVERNMENT employee, because they work for the school.<br><br>Loss prevention knows the serial numbers of all of the the laptops, and the names of the student to whom each laptop is loaned out. This would be part of the checkout process.
