After the announcement of the iPad a lot of people were talking about a WebOS tablet. Unfortunately Palm doesn't have enough of WebOS developed or applications/programs that would make it worth it.

One of the major things for me in terms of a table is a good Word type program so I can use it to take notes in class, for work, etc. A slideshow presentation software program would be great as well. There's the homebrew scene as well, and they recently released their PDK development kit, so there's that as well. As an independent (and often for hire) developer, I actually prefer to develop for it because the platform is so open, there are a lot of ways to develop for it, and the tools are free (except for the phone, which is very affordable itself). It saves me a lot of upfront cost overhead over iPhone or even Android development (to a slight degree) and would prefer to only work on webOS...unfortunately for me, too many kids make me hurt myself financially and force me to work on those other mobile platforms because people keep buying those phones instead.

zullnero

Comments on Palm's webOS 1.4 update now available for Sprint, O2 and Movistar phones

@Puggs,

Actually this is a surprise, I thought we were getting Flash 10.1 beta, but Palm made a good decision to give us Flash 10.0 instead of beta software, which would not have been stable.

Of course, the advantage of Flash 10.1 is that it enables hardware acceleration of Flash content; this will provide much faster performance in running Flash contents such as videos and games.

I heard that Flash 10.1 will be released by June 2010, which is about three months away.

Andrew Augustine

Comments on Palm's webOS 1.4 update now available for Sprint, O2 and Movistar phones

Tenth

Anthony

Comments on Palm's webOS 1.4 update now available for Sprint, O2 and Movistar phones

About damn time ! I think the "slow" (which isn't really slow, remember iPhone 2G... shutter!!) adoption of features is lack of resource (money and people). I have been very impressed with Palm and the Pre. In less than a year Pre/Pixi owners are basically on par with every other smart phone (and have it better in some areas). None of these smart phones are perfect honestly. WebOS one of the best mobile OS' out there and better in some respects than anything I have seen. The video recording looks amazing compared to other cellphone videos I have used and seen. It is very easy to edit, high quality and simple to upload and use. The cards open slightly faster, even though I never noticed it being slow before and I like the new way they open "minimized" first. I love that the blink notifications are now a part of the default settings and I love the AUPT that the preware fellows put together; all my patches easily updated to 1.4.

The Pre is by far the best and most fun phone that I have ever used or seen.
