DVD Decrypter is still freely available, so all the studios have done here is squash the one company that was trying to provide an option that respected fair use AND rights management. The genie is out of the bottle.  People can and do rip DVDs for both personal and not-so-personal use.  As more and more devices are able to play h.264 video, the practice will only become more common.  There is NOTHING that can be done to stop or even slow this trend.  Every dollar spent trying to fight DVD ripping is a dollar pissed away.<br><br>The entertainment industry should be working WITH companies like Real to come up with programs that allow people to move content around while still maintaining rights management. It's spendy but it goes through everything. I'm up to about 60 converted Blu-Rays and over 400 DVD's - every single disc has been cracked by AnyDVD. It's nice - you buy the movie, drop it in your drive, convert it, and then put it back in the case. I then box up my cases and store them somewhere safe. This is exactly the approach that Real was taking. Personally, I hate the idea of each disk having it's own UI. One of the key benefits of ripping is getting rid of all of that nonsense (especially Disney). Modern container formats will let you keep the extra tracks. No need to do anything as it strips away the DRM. Then you are left with finding the right software to convert your movies. Depending on the format you want there are tons of options. Personally, for VOB file I don't think you can beat DVDShrink. Easily let's you select your audio/subtitle. You can extract just the movie or the movie + everything else. Also provides compression. The other app that I like is MakeMKV. Very simple and similar to DVDShrink (sans the ability to compress). Works very well. Obviously ripping DVDs to the hard drive is old news, but to have a nice library with the covers, descriptions and such I thought was really nice.  Remove the need of switching disks all the time and gives you the ability to store your entire dvd collection on a central pc.  Are there any free programs out there that do this?  I didn't know that Real sold any RealDVD programs at all so I was surprised to see that they had stopped.
