Samsung has just visited a bunch of data sheets upon us, and we've drawn out a few as yet unknown numerals regarding pricing and availability of the shooters it
showed off at PMA this year. The
TL500 above, swiveling AMOLED screen and all, will set buyers back $449 this spring when it'll be joined by its junior sibling, the
TL350, which will cost $349. Both shooters offer RAW support and dual image stabilization, though funnily enough the cheaper 350 model offers 1080p video recording whereas the gaudier TL500 makes do with 640 x 480. If you're after something a bit more durable, the scratch-proof and rubberized
SL605 will set you back only $129, while the all-weather
AQ100 gets a $199 sticker, with both expected in that same spring release window. Phew, aren't you glad you know all that now?
Oh god, I'm gunna blow all my money, these look too great to resist.
@yulebellow
+1. This is without doubt the best looking non-SLR camera I have ever seen.
The TL-350 will look great in my pocket. It's gonna be a fun spring!
@Edobe There are so many things wrong with that statement.
That is one slick looking camera.
Put that shooter away.
F 1.8 for a digicam is amazing. I wonder how it looks at that aperature? Even if you have to stop it down to 2.2, that's still pretty nice.
What's the sensor size on these bad boys?
@chispito 1/1.7" sensor
@chispito
I was thinking the same thing. I have a 85mm f 1.8 prime lens for my DSLR, but my previous digicam only had a f 3.5 lens and it sucked at lower light pictures.
I would like to see this have a 10x or 12x zoom on it however. It might not be able to fit in a pocket or have the f 1.8 at that point however.
@chispito S90 has an f/2.0 lens, looks great at that setting.
I'm not sure even the f/1.8 is the big news on this one - what impresses me is that it looks like it's f/2.4 at 3x zoom, which is pretty impressive. The S90 drops quite fast to f/4.9 at 3x zoom, so that's a pretty big advantage for the TL500.
From the picture it looks like they nicked the idea of a control ring around the lens from the S90 too, which is a great move. It's such an incredibly useful tool, makes the S90 actually *easier* to control manually than most DSLRs.
I love my S90, but if I hadn't bought it, it'd be pretty hard to ignore this thing. Need final reviews to see if it's as good as the specs, but the specs are very impressive...
@Atkins
never ..........
samsung products have the worst build quality..........
except their last year LED TV's (some gud) .........
The specs on the TL500 are very nice, and would make me seriously consider replacing my Lumix LX3. However, why does it have to look so ugly? Something about that design just doesn't mesh for me.
They put the flash on left side again on the tl350 just like the wb500/550. It suck coz fingers keep blocking the flash when shooting with 1 hand.
That's one good-looking camera. Love the "old style" details and overall feeling.
Yeah! Let the aperture wars begin!
I just bought a Canon S90 and that F2.0 lens has made far more of an impact on the quality of my photography than any jump in megapixels ever did. I can shoot on the street at night with no flash and ISO 200, handheld. I can also get the shallow depth of field that has always been impossible with pocket cameras.
The F1.8 lens on this bad boy lets in twice as much light as the lens on my S90.
@BdgBill1
50% more light, not twice. a 1.4 would be twice 2
@irfan actually i think its 25%
"expected in that same spring release window"
When do you suspect that is? Spring could be May!! Anyone know the release date?
