Of course die-hards and people very interested in the iPad but who don't live near an Apple Store will pre-order. But there's very little reason to expect in advance that there will be a huge demand. Like the iPhone, there won't be large numbers of people lining up until the second generation.

In fact, if Apple expected a huge demand, there would be no on-line pre-orders at all.
