This device appears to have bluetooth from the blue light on the top corner. I think for a lot people this could be a great intemediary computer. That actually fills the space between netbook and mobile phone.

iPad claims to do that, but really it is the space between an iPhone and an iPhone.

I don't think this thing has an accelerometer though. This is good on many counts. However there is one major problem: battery life. If this thing is really talking about low end laptop/netbook battery life (3.5 hours... :( ), that's a problem. The only way this new category is going to survive is if it makes it feasible to use a computer all the time without the worry of sit down, power up, worry about having an outlet or watching battery life, etc.

If $877 is the base price then that could be seen as an issue as well. That's a lot of money for a bottom end spec. Though, if that is the top price point then that's pretty darn good, but unfortunately it doesn't sound like that.

A lot of these tablet offerings are shoving netbook specs into them, where as other ones are using boosted phone hardware. This makes it a question of what this device is really supposed to be. Is it a regular netbook with a touchscreen and UI improvements instead of a keyboard? Or is it something "new", as in an oversized mobile device (PMP/phone) banking on new and unique development opportunities? There are a lot of contenders on either side of the question.

For better or worse, I think that battery life is going to kill out the former. Also, the former has somewhat been done before. Unless full OS developers start making specialized tablet offerings, they are going to be stuck in the shadows.

jedidove

Comments on

This kinds of tablets make Steve Jobs "iPad is the most revolutionary device ever" statement sound so true. This is based on my experience with intel integrated graphics in more powerful 1.6 Ghz core duo processor and 3gb RAM.

Also the hard drive on this is going to make it slower than SDD.

Finally cramming a product with features does not make it more usable or better. If that were the case the wii would have been dead last in sales and the ps3 the first. However, we know it's just the reverse. It comes down to user experience. Most people here don't realize that the 'only' part of flash they will 'ever' see on their netbook is flash ads. Not one of those video streaming sites will work well. Flash support on netbooks is just a check list item since it isn't a usable feature. It's gonna slow down the machine while offering no real benefits. The same for multi tasking.

The products are just drawer stuffers. People buy them and stuff them in drawers. They won't be very usable. Hence why I seldom see people actually use netbooks.
