Developers are going to jump all over it.

My problem is this though. For someone who is done with school and who doesn't do extensive notetaking for work, there isn't a whole lot of appeal to the Courier. Sure, I see it and I like it, but when I think "what will I do with this thing?" the picture becomes more fuzzy. If I ask the same question of the iPad, the answer is much more clear - for the web, video, and casual games. I suspect I am not in the minority either. I would have loved something like that for school though. It looks like it'll be a great personal organizer too, but the portability and power of modern smartphones makes them much more appealing for that purpose (at least to me).

I haven't seen anything referencing the type of screen technology the Courier uses, but if it uses capacitive technology it'll face the same battles with stylus input as the iPad. If that's the case, I see the iPad as a much more marketable device that can be used for sketching and notetaking (in a less refined manner) with a huge advantage in the entertainment segment.

ebgolfin

Comments on

@LAY
Do you know what the term 'vaporware' actually means? I still admire the effort put into the layout of the printed page, and if I can flip through those pages digitally, and carry dozens of magazines in one thin electronic device... then I'd be happy. I love magazines... but I don't subscribe to them because I simply don't want all that paper laying around. And no... their website is not the same as their magazine... even if the content is free.

So the iPad would be awesome for me... as a magazine reader and a web browser. But if I'm browsing the web on my iPad, and there is some piece of Flash that I absolutely have to see... no worries... there are 4 other computers in my house. I really don't see it as a problem.

The Courier? Unless you *need* to drag shit from one screen to the other... why bother with 2 screens? I guess you could browse 2 websites at the same time... multitasking? I don't see the Courier as a competitor to the iPad. However, the market is vastly different between the iPad and Courier. With the iPad, you are looking a niche device that sits between a mobile device (Touch, iPhone) and a laptop/desktop. The functionality is limited to things that would be nice to do on your Touch or iPhone but that don't really work well given the screen size restraints on those smaller devices. Watching video, web browsing being the two big wins.

With the Courier you are going after a different market. You are focused on 3 distinct segments.

First, you have students. Assuming you can load content (like text books), this device could be the defacto device for HS kids and up. Carrying your course books, notes, and having internet access all on something smaller than a netbook is a huge win. Have it play music and watch videos and you have about 95% of what every student needs. And there are millions upon millions of students in this market.

Next, you have business folks. These are people that attend a ton of meetings and are sick of dragging their laptop around. Where I work these things could be a huge hit. We spend about 80% of our time in conference rooms with our laptops. That could change with this device.

Third, you have the tech geeks.
