NPD: Mac sales up 39 percent in January and Febuary as iPod sales rebound
Well, it looks like it's not just iPad pre-orders that are possibly be beating a few expectations -- according to NPD, sales of Macs and iPods were also up over some estimates in January and February. Citing the report, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster says that sales of Macs were up 39% year over year for the two months (ahead of estimates of 22%), which should translate to sales of between 2.8 to 2.9 million Macs for the full quarter, while iPod sales were up 7% during the same period, suggesting total iPod sales of between nine and ten million for the first quarter. That latter number may actually be the more impressive of the two, as it marks the first time iPod sales have rebounded into positive territory in a full sixteen months -- although that trend could just as easily be reversed again if, say, Apple rolls out a new iPhone that cuts into iPod sales.

Suprise, they must can't be wait, cause macbook very likely gonna get icore 3, 5 and 7 soon.
@techlord Yep, I'm currently saving for a MacBook, just as with my iPhone, I won't be upgrading till the do a refresh (and in the case of the iPhone, said refresh will probably need to contain multi tasking).
@sshole
I see no point buying now unless you really really need it now, cause unlike pc, mac price don't drop, they just replace with new model.
@techlord
unlike Mac, you can built your own PC and that's of course if you are savvy enough
@techlord
I admit that I bought an ipod ( a classic), but it was only because MS did not unveil a new high capacity Zune. :(
@jdm28690
u can't install mac od
@techlord
Yeah you can, it's all hackintoshing. Of course there's no reason to install such a crappy OS on better hardware. You're only crippling it. Especially if you use an SSD with 10.6. It has no TRIM support.
@Prevacator
Only pc running linux can hackintoshing, you can't hackintoshing with typical windows os.
@jdm28690
I still find it funny when people think building your own PC makes you some kind of genius.
FWIW I'm waiting for an Arrandale 13.3", but no hurry, haven't had a (non-work) laptop in 3 or 4 years.
Now, if only I owned enough AAPL to get excited about marketshare gains..
@Mack Stone
Haha, I've been saying this for years. Knowledge is power, and Apple is giving knowledge to the masses.
@Mack Stone
Oh what a crutch.
Ive been wondering why there are people that think not buying a apple computer makes people defective. I havent seen such a attitude outside of a cult.
@Mack Stone The reason why I prefer to build my own PCs is choice. I can get the exact CPU, GPU, case... that I want. Compared to a Mac, it will be a bit uglier, a bit less expensive, and a lot more flexible. It'll also be better quality, with money spent where it counts.
@newone
Our office has 2 Power Mac G5, is been broke in the same month. One is video card fry and other one can't be start up. No one can fix this except Apple which gonna cost arm and leg. Worst of Mac hardware, if video fry out you must buy the mac version which usually over price.
@obarthelemy
Less expensive? Yes. Better quality?
... what planet are you writing from? Do you think Apple charges the prices they do for no reason? I'd love to see the custom power supply you're going to build to match Apple's quality, and you obviously won't be able to design your own case, you're going to have to buy a premade one.
Apple designs their own, and because they can do it at an industrial level they end up with some of the best (quality-wise) hardware on the planet. Obviously there are faster chips, etc. But seriously, take a look at the inside of a Mac Pro and tell me, with a straight face, that you think you can build something higher quality than that.
@techlord I agree and I can't wait. I have my wallet ready. I may not be very interested in the ipad and I might even be considering selling my iPhone 3Gs for an android phone (depends on if apple wants to actually come out with a killer iPhone 4g or force feed everyone with a small update and call it new) but I will never use anything than a MacBook again. I love mine and I want an i5 or i7
@NoToApple What are you rambling on about fanboi?
@obarthelemy Maybe in your opinion but not mine and as this article states not much of anybody anymore since macs are up and windows are way down.
@NoToApple Youre comparing hardware to software.
And I'm pretty sure there was an article not too long ago about how many people have upgraded to Win7 as opposed to Vista when it was released.
@Jack
Mac pro lol hahaha let me see you overclock your xeon and doing sli or crossfire lol ironically you're comparing a workstation with a desktop. with the price of a mac pro id build a PC that leave your 5000k in the dust
@Mack Stone
i am employed and few people in my country uses Macs so no i am feeling threatened by a fruity logo lol
@macmann if you want to do it one way. Trouble is ... some of us like choice.
I can build my own PC.. heck I built a PC with an i7 920 processor with 6GB of RAM and an Nvidia graphics card last year. But I still enjoy playing around with my Macbook with Bootcamp. Love the design of the little Macbook I'm using, the Apple product is just damn nice.
@touchmygadget I guess with the iPad strong selling number Apple will keep the initial batches for itself. When supply become equal to demand they may open other channels like Amazon.
@techlord
you know how old those G5s are, right? Or that you can replace your own video card?
@Mack Stone
maybe if people start doing real work on them, the problems
will have an opportunity to bubble up
@crescentdavid
Not just some of "you" have choice. Everybody's got choice. We get to choose between PC's, Macs, and w/e. You get the choice of building your own, or w/e brand you like. We also get the choice of having less choice. That is a perfectly valid choice.
@macmann
They may be giving knowledge, but not options. And that knowledge is carefully sanitized, managed, and distributed at their whim. Reminds me of a Ridley Scott-directed commercial from the mid-80's...
Now hopefully we get some decent games (Dev's.. take note from Valve).
@sshole I hope so!
@sshole
how are you suppose gonna play crysis at max setting on your shi*tty 512 mobile graphic chip
@sshole Really excited about the news that Steam will be running on Macs! Bout time they started using those video cards! That was the last straw for me. My next lappie can be a mac.
@jdm28690
1) you dont have to play a game at max settings to enjoy it.
2) apple offers differing level of graphics based on the computer, granted its usually at a very inflated price.
@sshole Steam will be awesome, not because its Steam, but because lots of developers will be drawn to it like a beacon. I can't imagine playing games on a bug free, UNIX powerhouse with top quality apple hardware. It will be the best thing that has ever happened
@sshole
@ckrames1234
I disagree: Steam is in fact awesome.
@sshole awesome username!
@cobaltage
I disagree; Steam is made of 24K win covered in a space age unobtanium alloy, all lovingly assembled by the engineers at VALVe. It also comes with a 24K gold Companion Cube.
Steam is the vertu of games distribution....
@SolidSnake
Semicolon fail.....
@jdm28690
I already play Crysis at max settings with my GTX 285 in Boot Camp. You're welcome to try again though.
Woohoo!!
@TonyMontana2367
Mate your last comment was just plain embarrassing... I wouldn't be posting again today if i were you...
@hdawggy
How about you go throw another shrimp on the barbie
@TonyMontana2367
Slowly but surely they are increasing market share. That's good to see.
Macs rule!!!!!!
I hate macs lol
@Alexpeegs So why you reading this post?
@sonola777 cause im an american

That is all
@commenter7

@jdm28690 I concur.
