But isn't it "for" AT&T? I may confused - are you telling me this has nothing to do with AT&T at all? They don't need AT&T's blessing or permission to create a phone that runs off their network (and therefore impacting their service)?

You can buy any phone from around the world and if it uses the same GSM tech and has the same freqs as AT&T you just need to pop a AT&T SIM into it and it will work. Yeah. However, since it's an issue of simply inserting a SIM card, it does make sense it could be available for use on AT&T before Verizon. I just bought a Droid from Amazon from $75 so I'm happy for now. Much more bang for the buck than a Nexus One at that price.
