WSJ: Apple still 'racing' to complete iPad content deals before launch
The iPad launch may finally be right around the corner, but it looks like Apple might still have some considerable work cut out for itself before the big day. According to The Wall Street Journal, Apple is still negotiating with various media companies in an effort to drop the price on TV shows offered on the device, and it's even reportedly put some potential deals with newspaper, magazine and textbook publishers on the backburner as it focuses on other content. That word comes from the usual, unnamed "people with the matter," who go on to say that it's proven to be difficult to convince potential content partners of the advantages of working with Apple on the iPad versus the possible threats to their current sources of revenue.
It's hardly all bad news for the magical device though, as some other people familiar with the matter say that Apple has already sold "hundreds of thousands" of iPads. For its part, Apple is naturally staying mum on both counts.

Just get it out asap.
@nastro
I wonder where the Zune Marketplace media deals are.
Oh right, "people don't do that"
j/k
Just discontinue it.
@eddieexe Just shut up.
@eddieexe competition is always good for consumers....
stop trolling...
@ashleythehottiest u mad.
@eddieexe DOWNRANK
@Jacob Apple Geek UPRANK
@eddieexe No i didn't mean it lol
@ashleythehottiest I meant up rank ashleythehottiest not itroll n.o 2111155574
@eddieexe I love how public opinion has completely changed since the keynote. If he was to say this the week it came out, he would be instantly upranked.
@iFargle
Yup. I still feel the same about it. But to a certain extent. See, if this thing wasnt $500 dollars, it would be acceptable. I mean it has potential. It really does. It can serve for multiple uses such as a clipboard, to take orders at a restaurant, or be used to display blueprints without going through the hassle of unrolling multiple ones, or to write down football plays. You know, something like Surface has been doing in fancy restaurants. But its still just a huge iPod Touch. And since this is being marketed to me (and average consumers), as a replacement to a netbook, well, I don't see how it can do that. It's garbage. A netbook can multitask, is more open, costs less. I'm better off getting an iPod Touch if I want to just dick around on the internet you know? Better yet, an iPhone.
Of course, this is all my opinion, and we're all entitled to one. I respect everyone else's opinions, but I just dont see how this would be useful to me for everyday use. HP Slate appeals to me a bit more as a power user. But we've yet to even see the battery life on that thing.
@eddieexe
Also in B4 "wall-of-text"
Sorry, I got carried away.
@oldpass56
"@Jacob Apple Geek UPRANK"
Irony.
@iFargle yeah for some reason its cool to bash apple now a days. Get a life if you dont like it then there is a great option called the apple free engadget. Honestly, if your going to be closed minded then you are the one that will lose out on some future great technology because you are too brand loyal to a company that gives two shits about you and only wants your money as much as possible
@iFargle By the way I wasn't saying that you get a life I was agreeing with you. That was geared to people that love to bash a brand or product. Sorry if that was confusing and made it look like I was telling you off that was the opposite of my intentions
@eddieexe See this is the way this forum (or whatever it is) is geared to be used. You didn't bash anything or jump into an article just to get a rise out of people. You stated your opinion and left it at that. If people would be respectful this place would be a lot more friendly and enjoyable and who knows some people might actually get some valuable information saving them a lot of money on a future regretful buy.
To be honest, I share your opinion about the iPad. I just don't see it yet. I have an iPhone and a Macbook Pro why do I need this? To me this wasn't answered but like you said it has some huge potential. I am a college student and if text book companies would get on board (and actually not charge us a arm and leg) this would sell to everyone. You would see an Apple iPad in every school in the nation. As a media consumption pad w/out similar functions of a low cost netbook I'll save my money or get me a Nexus One (especially since the ATT 3G band just got released)
@eddieexe no where has Apple marketed the ipad as a netbook. They have been upfront that it's an iphone OS device. It's only blogs and such that hyped it as Apple's Answer to the Netbook War.
and it's fine if it doesn't work for you, oh technogeek with your advance needs. It's not for you. It's for JoeQPublic who wants to read ebooks or maybe watch a tv show or whatever on the morning commute. For Joe and Jane to keep the kiddies occupied on the road trip. and for college kid CharlieQPublic to have his etextbooks. and so on.
You know what I'm sick of already? That Apple will henceforth be credited with "killing Flash" even though it's an inevitable development anyway with HTML5 coming up...
@Mack Stone
your one of those apple fanboys arent you?
(ps not an apple hater. im impartial to them. some things they make are good, and some things suck. i dont worship or hate them - i just laugh at the ppl who are obsessed with them)
@cnote1287 Does your platform of choice have a dictionary? Dear God, man.
@NewL
your stupidity has a ridiculous twist:
even though apple never named itself flashkiller, u r already blaming them for it whereas in reality they are the only ones that have/had the balls to go this unpopular route. it was overdue and apple should get credit and support for this!"
@NewL Interesting, though the words "HTML 5 Video" were hardly in the public lexicon before Steve said them. Go back to the iPhone release and how YouTube would be there but not Flash.
Hitler wont be happy....
@commenter7
hahah. i love your picture!
@commenter7 when is he ever happy?! That guy complains about everything, I hope he doesn't do something crazy!
they're probably going to sue someone about something if something happens or doesn't happen
@rivera618 We haven't heard that a thousand times already on every Apple related article on this site. You should put that in your sig that is quite the accomplishment *sarcasm*
@angermeans i can same the same thing about your post fanboy
THE iPAD IS THE BEST COMPUTER IN THE WORLD!
@Rick Goodman Why did you just set yourself up?
@Rick Goodman My mouse is the best keyboard in the world.
@Rick Goodman My tire is the best car in the world.
@Dustin +1 lol
@Rick Goodman
Except when someone points out the omissions in functionality.. Then it becomes a media consumption device.
the original WSJ article quoted "people familiar with the matter" about half a dozen times. ridiculous
@njsrikar Seeing as Apple is almost pathological about secrecy, I'm sure none of the people that actually know are willing to go on the record for fear of their jobs or being nailed for violating an NDA.
@dan828
Nah, I think Apple pays these people to get themselves to be credited just as "people familiar with the matter".
Well I will have my iPAD in april ready to go. By the way before window fans jump on me. I am a PC user and I will always be a PC user. But currently the courier is not available or anything worth while, And I do no like lenovos crap technology or want to carry something thats call joojoo.
So I will carry my tampon in meetings called the iPAD for now. Fantasy football, baseball purposes.
@MarineIK not*
@MarineIK Good luck then.
@MarineIK wow justifying yourself to all the apple hating morons out there, sad and worryingly insecure. How about your buying an ipad because its damn good?
@to86 If I didn't think it was capable of doing what its supposed to do i would have not purchased? Sounds like your a die hard mac user. I am not justifying to any user. I buy what I want cause I want it and I give two shits on who makes it. This fanboy crap that you all argue back and forth is childish. The thing is, most of you that argue back and forth were in diapers while we starting using this stuff. I mean grow up. Have a nice day.
@MarineIK
couldnt have said it better myself :)
agree 100%
And everyone entitled to their opinion -so good for you. Btw, which model did you preorder?
@MarineIK I never thought about the iPad for Fantasy Football that would be sick. Kind of an expensive endeavor though
You proabably all know they have something similar to iPad's in Star Trek, but this one (from Star Trek DS9) is proabably the closest approximation! With red bezel.

@Son Goku i remember the IPADD. mostly cause of the scene where Wesley was shocked that Captain Picard would rather read a dusty old paper book. particularly funny after seen Sir Patrick's digital nation interview on youtube a few weeks back
