Sure, less than broadcast TV, but still...do they not get revenue from the Hulu ads?! They want less eyes in general?

These suits need to understand their audience. The fact is, they don't...at all. They're wholly clueless as to what the average viewer wants. The only time I use Hulu is from my laptop to my 40" LCD hooked up via HDMI and a decent creative speaker set I bought years ago. But, how many people truly want to sit at a desk in an office chair watching TV on a tiny PC monitor? I'd much rather DVR it from broadcast and skip commercials that way. The viewers will get the show they want some way, so why doesn't Hulu do it on their best terms? With moves like this, they ensure I will torrent the show I missed.

Josh Bozeman

Comments on

@jtajbozeman TV stations make more money from regular broadcast ads so anything they can do to prevent Hulu from replacing that, without reducing the revenue they get from Hulu, is in their best interest.

And as a random thought people are probably much more likely to click ads if they're at their desktop PC than if they're comfy in a couch watching Hulu on their HTPC or boxee or whatever.

Broderbund

Comments on

@Broderbund Yeah, of course, but don't we all have DVR's these days to completely skip the ads? I almost never watch commercials...I watch most of what I watch ondemand thru cable or stuff I have DVRed. Which is why my box is constantly full- I'll go thru several days ahead scanning for interesting movies/shows/whatever and record them.

I just think if you're going to choose between ads you can't skip on Hulu thru a TV or a DVR that allows you to skip them all on a TV, I'd try to please the consumer in whatever tiny manner and go with what ad revenue hulu brings in and take the loss you'll get with the commercial skippers through regular TV. Besides- if I had my choice for video quality, ease of use, nicer remote control functions, no buffering issues- I'll watch the content via broadcast. I only go to hulu for stuff not available on broadcast/cable currently. They can't be blind to these realities.

Josh Bozeman

Comments on

By the way, who came up with the word "dongle?"
