Stability and the manufacturing process lend a lot to speed differences. Look at any well-done benchmark and Intel will pull ahead, always. I'm really not so keen on getting a laptop that doesn't support DX11, but I need something with a powerful CPU, so an AMD Turion is out of the question. These are designed to run database servers (and other systems with many concurrent threads), not games.  So reliability is as important as speed.  The interesting thing about this, is it's still using the socket F connector (1207).  That means that if you have a relatively recent AMD board (basically purchased in the past 3 or 4 years), these will likely be just a drop in replacement.  Considering that the socket came out with the dual core SantaRosa, you can go from 2 to 12 cores for just the price of the chip.
