It's not ugly to me... I think Nokia is trying to work off the design cues of the E71 and E72 which people really seemed to like... and I personally like the shape and angularity. I don't need it to look like every other phone. Go Nokia. I see a notification light on the right (similar to my n900), A forward facing camera in the middle & what is that on the left?

Also ppl who complain abt thickness in regards to Nokia phones, Compare the parts to the competition. Aside from better antena, battery and over-all reliability/performance, only SE competes in Image and optics quality.

Also, remember how the Nokia Tube, aka 5800 looked when we posted the first images on Symbian-Freak? The final device was totally different housing than before. They may be trying different camera mechanisms for lens protection, and this may just be one of many.
