Your best bet is to wait for Chrome OS to be released, and hope that it makes some decent sales. By that stage I am thinking quad core 2GHz Cortex-A9's will be in production, and they will make Atom look like pez (Actually Atom already looks like pez next to the current 1GHz dual cores).
But another problem is, if Chrome OS is sold with the netbook and the manufacturer never intends any other OS such as a full blown linux distro to be installed, we may only end up with cheap "good enough" CPU's and like 512MB RAM (Such as the $499 Skylight, eff that).
My dream is a 13 inch smartbook with a powerful quad core ARM CPU and 2GB+ RAM with a thin, sturdy build quality. And while 13 inch sounds too big, I believe weight is the most important factor in portability and it should be possible for a 13 inch smartbook to be as light as a 10 inch netbook, a pretty ideal weight.]]>Mar 30th 2010 2:53AM
