I'm tempted, but not quite. The limitations mentioned are pretty significant. I'll wait for more widespread HTML5 adoption, multi-tasking, the next wave of apps and a webcam. Though i think the next one will have 3D!!!
With nintendo bringing out a 3D console i think it will really make 3D take off in portable devices!! (such as the ipad!)
And i really think a 3D ipad will realy help the takeoff of 3D movies!!

Yeah, I have to say, I've been entirely unimpressed with this device in the run-up to release, but in reading this review, I was actually swayed for the first time and felt the impulse to go out and buy one. I won't... yet... not until they can cram a few more of the missing features into a future release. The iPad is going to be huge for Apple, and the competition is already chomping at the bit, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a new model in 6-12 months to coincide with the OS 4.0 release. We've already seen hints of a possible webcam version with iChat.

I still don't see me getting one of these. Josh is right, it definitely won't replace a laptop if a laptop is what you need. As a large screen PMP it's fine, but I need more and always will.

The lack of a webcam is completely inexcusable. It's such a logical component for this device it really makes one think if it was left off for the sole reason of selling more units next year when Apple suddenly invents it.

Also I'm puzzled that the screen resolution couldn't be at least 720p. I know the screen size isn't that big but it would have made it seem like a more legitimate video player if it was true HD.

Apple is relying heavily on publications like Marvel, WSJ, NYT, etc to keep up the revenue stream on the pad. What companies still refuse to acknowledge is the great majority of people will NEVER subscribe to content they pull up on a computer.

NEVER.

The main deal breaker in all of this is the price. Once again, Apple slaps a 40% additional markup to artificially inflate the value of their products. So far it's worked out for them so why change, right?

All that being said, I would pick one up if I knew that it wouldn't find itself in a corner collecting dust after a month. Perhaps some people will find a real use for this thing. If everyone is really honest with themselves and is even the least bit tech savvy, they know that they shouldn't even be tempted to get the current device because (as you said) your phone and computer do more than what this device does and you can get both under price of the reviewed iPad.
