Deadlands 2 HD DVD rises from the grave for a limited run
And here we were thinking that the Deadlands 2 labor of love has passed peacefully on to the next world. Appropriately enough for a zombie flick (or whatever it is, we haven't actually bothered to watch the trailer that closely -- though if you're interested, there is a free download of the entire flick on the director's website) even cancellation could not stop a limited edition HD DVD-R run from reaching the faithful who preordered. After all the shipping issues and a lackluster DVD effort the film will apparently no longer be distributed by Anthem Pictures, though it could see a "proper release" by another company. Still, we never expected a new HD DVD to ship in 2010, leaving us to wonder if the inevitable Deadlands 3 will keep the streak going next year.[Thanks, Popeye9000]

What about the Laserdisc and VHS versions?
AFAICT, there is no Blu-ray. Either the director is bitter from the format war, or they're doing this for publicity.

Wait, I meant Betamax!

@EatingPie
The director has said that he just liked the HD DVD format and thought that it would be cool to release it that way. He had nothing to prove by doing it.
Who still have HD-DVD authoring gear? I thought it would have been long gone.
@Unverified User hence all the publishing probs and ultimately a hd dvd-r pressing instead of a conventional one.
I think the next xbox should have hd-dvd as the main drive. They need a storage disk large enough to handle the bigger games we're getting (like ff13), and I doubt they'll concede and buy into blu-ray. Even if they're not still releasing movies on it, I see no reason that they can't use it for games. And maybe more directors will do this and have some kind of xbox only movies.
@engadgetcomexcludeengadget Not a bad idea for MS, it may even cut into piracy that way.
I still have my HD-DVD player hooked up to my Xbox 360 (or PC, depending on my mood).
Works great, looks great, and the movies are dirt cheap now.
HD Pay per view will probably kill Blu-Ray anyway. Hate to say it. I'm increasingly buying new movies from Dish HD PPV for $6.99 because I didn't have the new release in my Netflix que in time.
