Apple and Google both use the WebKit browser, however Google's WebKit browser is branched off as Chromium. They aren't actually exactly the same code base and therefore aren't they testing the weakness/strength of SnapDragon + Chromium _software_ vs the weakness/strength of A4 + Apple's WebKit _software_? SnapDragon + Chromium vs A4 + WebKit is not the same thing as SnapDragon vs A4. How about this for the way it is: if Apple makes a faster chip, then why would they go for the Snapdrogon? Together they improved on the original ARM design by Acorn in the joint venture ARM Ltd. It is, however, clear that most of the engineering was done by Acorn, funding and ressources came from Apple. The Nexus One uses a smaller screen and a smaller battery, so the processors power usage has a much larger impact, so they probably throttle it  more. In the iPad, the processor's power usage is negligible compared to the screens, so they throttle it less. But really think about it, what do we experience? The A4 did the same task faster than the snapdragon. Wether that was all the processor or a mixture of the processor and software (which is another plus for Apple products) it doesn't matter. What else would it be? The current iPhone uses a Cortex A8 atr ~600Mhz, the Apple A4 is a Cortex A8 at 1GHz, so I don't see where else they could go with it. It just doesn't work.  For example, a 1.6Ghz Intel Atom is roughly equivalent to an 800Mhz Celeron. I keep forgetting that the iPad is using an even crappier processor technology than the Tegra 2 will and it only has one core. Silly me. Apple's SoC that fanboys hail as a custom design that is responsible for the "breathtakingly fast user experience" is nothing more than an ARM CPU, the same as Snapdragon, with some of the other hardware bits hacked out, like hardware video encoding, all running on a severely handicapped OS so that Apple can push claims of speed and battery life. I'll wait for my Tegra 2 tablet with its better instruction set, dual core processor, and better video processing so that I can output 1080p.
