In fact if you check ebay about 1% of all ipads sold are on sale now. And probably another 1% has been sold already.

Unfortunately for them it isnt selling well... the price they are getting is about same you pay with sales tax. So a device that no one needed, according to the Apple Haters, sells 300,000 in the first day, which is more than the original iPhone, more than the original iPod (Apple only sold 300,000 iPods in the first YEAR), more than the Droid (which was marketed more heavily), more than the Nexus One, more than the Xbox 360, more than the PS3, more than any other gadget released in five years, except for maybe the Wii and the iPhone 3G and 3GS (which both had worldwide releases at half the price), and the Haters still say it's "disappointing."

Okay.

The funnier thing is that the Haters are setting themselves up to be mocked in the future. Why? Because you guys just set the bar for what you consider a "failure." You guys just gave us the ammunition to diss any gadget in the future that doesn't sell more than 300,000. That includes the HP Slate, Courier (coming 2012) or any Windows Phone or Android device. Not really, since no other device will get the same media hype as this one. I think if the HP Slate sold 200,000 in the same time frame it would be a success because the HP Slate will not be on the cover of USA Today or whatever and won't get 3,000 articles per hour from Engadget and Gizmodo. Now whats left are those who decide to change their minds after a jailbreak comes out, and those who do change their minds will be one of the last people who buy the ipad. The best is yet to come! The thing about the iPad is that the device really doesn't matter, its the content, and from what I have seen, developers who develop for any Apple device are 300,000 times better than on any other device.

These devices are not about chasing spec sheets, they are about experiences, something Apple has mastered and other manufacture have been struggling to understand for the last two decades.

I see the lack of a contract as something that Apple knew would keep their adoption down without a subsidy. People who want 1st Gen, if they enjoy their experience, might have an annual upgrade cycle which would mean you don't want them locked into a 2 year contract. It was just a good PR move in some ways.
