With Divx, AVI, or WMV at least you can play it on your PS3 or Xbox360. DivX Plus HD is the format based on .mkv which will play Matroska files with H.264 video and surround sound AAC audio. DivX Plus HD  certified devices will also play DivX/AVI as well. AND it plays MKVs, flash files and the like. It can do subtitles also, something MKV2VOB can't. And amazingly, it can also output 7.1 surround to my receiver through HDMI. I have also connected my PS3/360/FIOS to it all with HDMI, and the receiver, and it automatically routes the surround audio from one port to another.
