The fact is that development costs are high.. Look at xbox.. Do you think it's just by mistake that every vehicle in rainbow six is a dodge?

In-app advertising is a good option for developers.. And the customers need to be diligent and not let it get out of hand (don't get the apps that are too saturated)

2: in-app ad for iphone has already available since the early days of the AppStore. and most of the ads are served by AdMob, which is owned by Google. it wont hurt to have another ad player on Apple's own turf (i mean the ecosystem, not the ad business).

The key here is 'reasonable amount of time' I'm not sure it's reasonable to say that the iPhone 3g or iPod touch 2g can't multitask.

My jailbroken iPod Touch 2g multitasks right now in fact. I can already listen to Pandora while surfing the web, and I can also turn wifi and bluetooth on/off and disable screen rotation with just a simple swipe on the top bar.

If they didn't support the 3gs it would be outrageous. It's less than a year old, they HAVE to support that phone and the touch 3G.

Also, at&t sells the iPhone 3G right NOW, not just 2 years ago. It's billed as the cheap way to get into an iPhone, and is often cited as one of the reasons why Palm's phones are overpriced, and for the downward price pressure on smart phones in general. It's pretty lame that they are currently selling a product that can't take full advantage of an update that's right around the corner.

Remember, you can like Apple products without buying into everything Steve Jobs has to say.

They make great stuff, but Steve is often disingenuous in his public comments. so it's almost the same case for iPhone 3G. yes, it will receive 4.0 update, but the catch is that it wont have multitasking.

yup, iPhone 3G can already multitask if it's jailbroken, but as some can see, Apple is banking on simplicity and no-frills experience. remember the lag both iPhone and iPhone 3G faced as the OS jumped to version 3. well maybe that kind of tragedy is what apple want to avoid today, or their reputation will got tarnished again.

and let me add, the iPhone 3G internals are not much different with the 1st gen either in terms of raw power, they even use the same generation of processor without much different in clockspeed (with the chip of the 1st gen EVEN FASTER than the iPhone 3G), with same RAM capacity. the iPhone 3G itself is outdated on the first day it went on sale, so yeah, it sucks to be an iPhone 3G user.

so yeah, no matter how people complained, iPhone 3G is too weak to keep itself floating on Apple's own bar while having multitasking. that's the sole reason.
