Both Fusion Garage and Adobe are coming in the back door.  That is so pathetic.  Promising innocent consumers Flash support only to snatch it away at the last minute.  Since most of the JooJoo buyers were probably geeks, they'll figure some way to get working Flash on it.<br><br>Since 94% of the world are Windows desktop users, those Flash-loving lapdogs don't care if Flash is crap on all the other desktop and mobile platforms.  I almost hope that Apple pulls Adobe's pants down around their knees and keeps aggressively pushing towards HTML5. Adobe pretty much said it themselves: if you don't have a direct relationship with them, you can't build a decent web experience with flash.<br><br>This is why we need open documented standards that anybody can implement on any platform without being entirely dependent on some third party.<br><br>I don't want Adobe restricting the internet to first-tier partners. Read up on the standards. SVG has been around longer than flash and is not proprietary. Canvas has been around since widgets were introduced into OS X. Both open source and capable of anything that flash is capable as far as animation goes. Flash is performing well on cell phones so a tablet with more beef will handle it just fine (see the HP Slate). Standards like HTML are open. Anybody can create their own version of it that is optimised for their platform or hardware.<br><br>You can't do that with closed systems like flash. You have to wait for Adobe to do it (if they ever do).<br><br>HTML5 isn't a perfect solution, and there will be transition pains, but when you end up with a standards-based web that is device/vendor/hardware/platform/browser agnostic, it'll be worth it! Fusion Garage could have easily gotten in touch with Adobe and gotten an early beta to their mobile version of Flash Player 10.1. Perhaps, for a small company fighting against the clock, it seems like this is time they didn't have. They supposedly (and I really do not know for sure) were committed to making this product for Tech Crunch or at least were going to partner with Tech Crunch. Then literally a week before they were supposed to announce it with them they drop Tech Crunch and the Crunchpad name and say they are going to just go a head without them.<br><br>Nobody would have even known who these guys were without Tech Crunch getting involved up to a point. They would have been even more lost in the crowd had they not done what they had.<br><br>Granted I haven't read all of the material on this as I find legal battles to be about the most boring thing on earth. But they probably had a better shot ad doing this right with Tech Crunch's help and guidance. They first ask for and then demand detailed technical information, and if you tell them it's proprietary and can't be disclosed, they get offended. Same holds for OS X. That's the whole point here: if you don't use Windows, you're f*ed if you need Flash. You're f*ed if you're on Linux, you're f*ed if you're on OS X, and you're f*ed if you're on a handset.<br><br>The most brilliant part about this all is that my Ion + Atom based HTPC has similar issues with Flash: playing full-screen SD youtube from the browser is unbearable. According to the graphs Flash is faster, but what it is not measuring is jitter - on my system the Flash startup was very ragged, while the Canvas version was smooth the whole time. So JooJoo took the Linux Flash player and put it on the very same hardware as is in any of the Linux netbooks, and it sucked, up to the point that it is unusable. And now Adobe says JooJoo to go fuck themselves because the very same POS Flash players that Linux users have to put up with is apparently 'only for desktops'.
