Way too many people jump in with the "Anti-Trust" meme, but it really has nothing to do with this situation. Walmart has a right to decide what goes in their market.

Anti-Trust just doesn't apply because, first of all, Anti-trust laws deal with monopolies. You can't have a monopoly on your own product. I read a lot on the case and through actual court documents and that's not all of it. The government did not like that MS was integrating IE into Windows Explorer and the OS itself so therefore, it would be required to be on the system. The Flash lovers are claiming Apple is bullying a company with 98% of website share. Why should Apple be forced to use Flash on its own platform? I really don't understand why so many people don't want an alternative to Flash on the mobile platform. The most it would do is hurt Apple if everyone was so in love with using Flash. American legal system is now protecting big business, more than ever. 50 years ago this would've been talked about as an issue in the courts, and whether something should be done about this. These days, the watershed moment has to come a lot later.

In the EU however, the courts feel much more compelled to protect and serve the consumer. These suits have to come from the EU courts, forget about the FTC for now. If Apple pisses off the EU then we can maybe see some international ripples felt, otherwise, don't expect the FTC to come help the little guys (the consumers) out.

To all who say, "if you don't like it, don't buy it." I think that is the problem, we like it and some of us buy it and some of us say "If it weren't for that damn closed platform" (this only exaggerating that fact. I really do doubt that people in large numbers will run away due to this one, but if developers do then they have a worse product on their hands when they put their faith in Apple. Maybe a lot of the people here who complain about the closed platform will buy one if they change their stance, so it's that we are trying to have our voices heard and maybe even change a few minds along the way because if Apple changes their ways they can have the best platform (whether or not they do already). So, it is our right, and to a large extent, our duty to complain about these facts; and it's not just a case of saying 'Well, last week it was multitasking, now you're looking for the next thing to complain about.' No, it's always been the biggest fish, and the principle of the matter:

DON'T LIMIT MY CONSUMER CHOICE (apple and their defenders).

juanvaldez
