There are some for media creation and some like this for consumption. They aren't all supposed to be primary for playing games and such. If you wanna go and make digital art, and you don't have a laptop, and your desktop is kinda old, what are you gonna do? Are you gonna buy a new desktop and then buy a Wacom accessory to stick it in the USB? Not likely. You're probably gonna buy a Tablet like the TM2. Digitizer support, 512 levels of pressure sensitivity, and enough power to run those media intensive apps. Not to mention you won't be limited to the desktop for work, you can take it anywhere, and it's not too heavy. I've seen a couple around design schools.

Those types of tablets are NOT to be pitted against the iPad. They serve a completely different purpose.

This HP Slate thing, is a device that I was fooled on, as I had the intent that you could do media creation. It doesn't have the type of input and touch features that the TM2 does. I don't even think it comes with a pen. Nowhere in the OS are apps for design pre-installed. The whole OS is skinned for Hulu, Flash content, games etc.

This IS the type of device to compare against the iPad, as they are in the same category.

With that said, the iPad is gonna come out on top.
