So, if the Beam (probably not) Wave (maybe, all price dependent), and Galaxy S (price might kill it) + whatever else they decide to put it in are in high demand there wont be much Super AMOLED going around for the 2nd half of 2010. I'm not sure how far the competition is off from bringing anything competitive in the mix.

The next iPhone will definitely have some dreams of Super AMOLED, the logic I say as to the possibility of it getting it is entirely my own as I haven't heard anything but wishes and dreams. Samsung could've won (extra) contracts for iPad parts (most notably the IPS screen) in exchange for the screens. Also, the iPhone would get Samsung more screens shipped and at a higher price than any other phone would get, the same way their NAND memory works. Lastly, Apple might feel the need to overpay a little bit to have an edge up on the competition for at least the next 6 months while the supply of these screens are very low.

juanvaldez

Comments on Toshiba's tablets said to offer Tegra 2 power, have we already seen the Android version?

@juanvaldez I've also heard (and totally believe) that the iPhone HD will indeed get a Super AMOLED screen... 80% transflection and 20% more brightness and less battery life is something worth acquiring, and indeed, with the iPhone Samsung will make a deal like no other. Maybe only HTC could rival that deal.

Here's more about Super AMOLED for the iPhone:
http://www.intomobile.com/2010/04/16/iphone-hd-4g-may-rock-samsungs-super-amoled-display-technology.html

But then again, the very fact iPhone HD will get the Super AMOLED display makes me certain that HTC will seek to acquire them as well. Also, I'm sure you know but you quote it as having less battery life and I'm sure you mean less battery usage (longer battery life).

So, N2, and all other HTC devices will be subject to Samsung and Samsung might be subject to an exclusive/priority contract order for Apple. I really expect the Christmas 2010 market to have at least one 4" Super AMOLED HTC Android on shelves, running either Tegra 2 or Scorpion (the former being better), and knowing that with almost 100% certainty makes waiting for Christmas a good call, IMO.

That said, don't worry about the Samsung S.... it will sell like crazy, especially that its UI is very very consumer friendly (the home and app soft buttons, for instance) and very "iPhonish".... two of more reasons why it doesn't really appeal to me...

TareG

Comments on Toshiba's tablets said to offer Tegra 2 power, have we already seen the Android version?

@TareG Aggregate numbers versus margins are two completely separate topics. A Galaxy S would net them 3-4x what the screen and other internals would, so if it came down to it, they would most definitely prefer to boost their bottom line than to cut their supply lower than what they need. Also, one of the reasons why Samsung doesn't make a great deal on their phones (they were down to something like $115 average selling price, which I assume is the price given to them by the distributors/carriers). Smartphones net more than triple this, they've been on feature phones too long and are starting to feel less competitive by the day.

I'd be willing to bet a lot of money that if:

Samsung is the sole supplier of the screens
Apple gets a deal lined up for an iPhone that gets sold during 2010
& between now and the end of the year they can't produce more than 15 million Super AMOLED screens that HTC won't get 1.

Just my 2 cents. That said, these phones will definitely be announced in the 2nd half of the year, so it'll be interesting to see what deals are scored.

juanvaldez

Comments on Toshiba's tablets said to offer Tegra 2 power, have we already seen the Android version?

The great new thing, is always just out of reach...
Water world...

killplaystation

Comments on Toshiba's tablets said to offer Tegra 2 power, have we already seen the Android version?

Looks like a huge Acer liquid.

iakona

Comments on Toshiba's tablets said to offer Tegra 2 power, have we already seen the Android version?

My next gadget would be with windows 7, 1080p resolution, SSD storage and probably Tegra and ARM will make it a fanless gadget.
