Olympus E-P1 outfitted with Rollei EVF
Looking to add even more retro flavor to your Olumpus E-P1? Then you might want to consider taking after Flickr user Lok Cheung, who was inspired by the Rolleiflex TLR to create this Rollei EVF (of sorts) for the Micro Four Thirds camera. While the setup isn't actually anything more than a viewfinder for viewing the screen, Lok nonetheless says the results are "really good," with the viewfinder resting almost right behind the lens, and the manual focus "almost as fast as you can get on a true manual camera." Not the most practical camera mod, perhaps, but certainly one of the more interesting ones.

Beauty.
why?
no srsly, why?
@IvanP91
Because it's easier to use the viewfinder as a pseudo EVF, rather than use the LCD screen when using a manual focus.
@IvanP91
What Jhearne said. There are actually numerous products on the market that do just this. They are popular among Canon DSLR filmmakers, since the EVF goes "dead" when recording video. These loupe devices allow you to view the LCD like an EVF, making focus much easier especially in bright sunlight. This is a neat idea for a retrofit...I'm just not sure how the user is going to attach the Rollie VF.
@st louis lookin dude
"I'm just not sure how the user is going to attach the Rollie VF"
Duct tape. Duh.
@IvanP91
This also allows you to shoot from the hip, which is useful for upskirt, uh, I mean candid, shots.
@rhackin
Well, I consider myself a pro, so duct tape is out. Gaffer tape on the other hand...
Great. Now you can look even more like a vintage hipster douche.
You guys must be desperate for stories today. I'm not sure how putting an EP-1 in the same picture as this Rollei viewfinder qualifies as "outfitted". It's not even a mod, because he hasn't even attached it to the camera.
I don't see how it's impractical. It does everything for the original roli that it does for this camera. It provides a light shroud so you can see the screen better, with a loupe to get manual focus just right, and depending onthe model a pop down mirror so you can hold it at waist level and see the viewer.
Just get a Zacuto viewfinder already.
Olumpus sounds like a disease.
Lame mod, imo. Why complicate something simple like a viewfinder?
i don't know that much about camera, but seeing this i instantly thought it as a cheap M9 alternative [in a positive way]. nice idea!
you guys do know this doesn't enable waist level shooting right.. look at the viewfinder, it's adjacent to the LCD,,, this is completely useless and just makes the camera more cumbersome and diminishes its main purpose; ease of use and portability.
Awesome, I wish TLR's would get a digital re-birth. I love using my TLR's, it feels really satisfying and people are much less intimidated (most often because there isn't a big lens at eye-height sticking in their direction). All of my photography using a TLR so far have come out really natural.
The Olympus E-P1 has a 12.3-megapixel sensor that is capable of both still and HD video capture. Many of the features in the E-P1 can also be found in Olympus's digital SLRs, including face detection, Art Filters, the SuperSonic Wave Filter for dust reduction, sensor-shift image stabilization, multiple exposures, and magnified focus assist. But the Olympus E-P1 introduces a lot of features new to the company as well, including HD video, digital leveling, 324-area matrix metering, onboard music, and in-camera music/still/video integration.
