You do realize, that "catching on" is completely irrelevant, right? This is a POS solution. If you, as merchant, buy a POS solution, you couldn't care less whether or not it has "caught on". Even if you're the only person in the entire world using the system, you only care that it works as advertised and that the manufacturer will continue to support it for as long as you own the device/solution. Still dont see where this device fits in other than local markets and car boot sales. The merchants here dont sell high volumes and im sure theywould be put off by the fee.

The whole point of this device, as opposed to the Square, is that encryption is performed in hardware, so the iPhone app never has access to the unencrypted credit card data. Merchants who are looking for this as a solution don't care about having the latest IPhone and I'm sure that Apple will be selling the 3GS for sometime to come. If you are swiping every transaction then 2.75% is a HORRID rate. Plus, Verifone is one of the top point-of-sale manufacturers in the world...granted, I hate their equipment but at least I know they will be around for awhile (unlike Square). Payware is good for merchants who process at least $1,000 a month in credit card fees. We use it, and with the fees, our net rate is 1.55%.
