And while your add it, clean up the old crap from the cpu, and put ceramic of silver based conductive paste (silver is barely better then ceramic). And you system will run as cool as new laptop!, my sisters hp dv2715us that i modded with the new shim and silver conductive paste runs almost as cool as my ASUS ul30vt-a1, and i would do the same to my ul30vt but i'll void the 2 year warranty.

As for systems that do not work anymore, it's more then likely the chip has just lifted off the motherboard. you can have them re-balled or you can get some aluminum foil and a heat gun (look for how to do this on youtube) and reconnect the chip to the board.

I'm convinced the mane problem is that the chip does not have any pressure on top, so when the chip heats up and cools down so many times (overheating is past 95-100c) it creates cracks in the solder that makes the connections. I have only seen on system with a damaged chip, the rest i was able to repair (50+, thanks Nvidia for making me money).

Gabriel

Comments on MSI's customizable GX640 gaming notebook now shipping

@NeatOman
Thanks for the heads up, but you said:

"...you can make it so it will never fail with a copper shim vs. a peace of rubber or rubbery foam! I ordered a replacement motherboard and they sent the wrong one. Sent them the laptop and they replaced the motherboard. Just under one moth later, the video died on the motherboard (just as it did the first time). I called, got an RMA, sent it in and they replaced the motherboard. Two weeks later, the video died again. MSI sent me another shipping label and I sent the laptop back to them for another replacement motherboard...that died a month later. After putting in the 5th motherboard, I thought I had finally gotten a good one. Made it 4 months before the video died this time, only to be told that the motherboards only have a 3-month warranty and they would no longer replace it for free.
