Sony removed otherOS because they want to make more money and realize completely screwing over a smaller number of customers was worth it, as their devs are already pissed about pirate potential (I know, the PS3 isn't pirated, the devs think it's pirated a hell of a lot, though not using Linux yet).<br><br>I don't see why Sony would remove a feature that moves their IP.  Maybe you're just some kind of fanboy, or just joking around.  <br><br>You should try 3D out. Nothing popped off of the screen. You have to always apply the latest updates to access the store, when you go to play a game it usually won't start unless you apply the update and even if you skipped this update the next update would probably force you to install this one first. It's expensive to train, and lots of folks will learn on their own if they are interested.  The PS3 is extremely powerful if you learn how to work with SPEs.  I was really just scratching the surface, and I'm sure I wasn't going to shake the earth, but this affects thousands of homebrew devs and some of them would have.<br><br>Also, Sony broke their promise, and that matters. It's great that the resolution was already way higher than I can see.  Wipeout is one of the best Mario Kart style racers ever made (where you pick up powers that you can use to compete).  And it's the best online racing I own, too.  I played a demo of GT5:P and the idea that this is a gimmick is a total load of crap.<br><br>The movies might be a gimmick... I know Avatar was awful and had a abyssmal plot.  But for games, you ARE the mental state behind the game's activity, and it has a seriously major effect to be immersed.  With older graphical games, the graphics were not realistic enough to make this work, but PS3 graphics, and a lot of Nvidia's modern 3D games are far and away realistic enough to give you a sense of fear of speed.<br><br>It's no gimmick.  It may not be worth the price for you on day 1, and some of the games will be gimmicks and lame as usual, but the idea of 3D HD gaming is bigger than a lot of other enhancements lately. I wanna see some better physics and AI in games damnit. Destructible walls shouldn't be a selling point for an FPS (for example), it should be a given. I wanna see proper cloth simulation for all those robes and ribbons the "manly men" wear in fighting games and not have them float around like they're under water. Personally, I actually think this one example, 3D gaming, is pretty sweet, but I usually yawn and wait until things are cheap.<br><br>It will never end.  The last thing you should do is buy the current hyped stuff if you're trying to be smart with your cash. I just wish he/they, whoever, decided to push for some sort of new technology to bring the masses to cinemas had chosen to do it with high fps video rather than 3D.<br><br>Personally I find it more immersive watching motion interpolated video via the TV processing it (100hz-240hz) than I do with 3D effects.<br>Many of my friends and colleagues are getting headaches watching 3D for more than 10-30 minutes at a time.<br><br>Don't know about 3D without glasses. A good story will immerse me in a film much more than flashy visuals.  Visuals help, but they only get you so far.<br><br>Maybe it's just because whenever I've seen 3D implemented it was distracting, especially if you don't watch a film in 3D.  Maybe movies will get better about it but there's always a scene where it's like "oh it's coming at you".  Lame.  <br><br>The big difference with games is that you'll have a lot more coming at you in every scene - bullets, shrapnel, that goblin you just dodged. I saw some of Coraline in 3D at a Fry's using shutter glasses and they looked good.  I know some friends who saw 3D at the Sony Store and they loved it, esp when they showed sports.  <br><br>For pete's sake, people.  Withhold your judgement until 3D comes out and everyone sees it!
