Nokia isn't adding 'anything new' as Eldar moans because Symbian had the features those funky new operating systems are just getting round to adding five years ago.

As for this... I'll get it if it performs like an X6 if...

1) They've got rid of the one touch/two touch UI inconsistency
2) You can put apps on carousel like you can contacts - I only need 20
3) It gets rid of al the connection confirmation messages
4) It tidies up the menu a bit
5) It's a bit snappier

Which will leave me a phone that is an excellent music player, bloody good camera, Sat Nav unit that doesn't require a constant internet connection and which actually makes calls without dropping them. Its a widget screen, that's all. Just like Android has, only with the widgets set in a grid. They will be freely set in S^4 in six months.

I like the device, although I'm waiting to see what sort of DSP/GPU solution it has. From the "me too" spec sheet, it is obvious Nokia is only showcasing its new durable build quality, and not featuring the new fast UI just yet. Gotta save some momentum for their Q4 MeeGo/S^4 magic. THAT's when everyone will see what they really want from Nokia. Tablets, smartphones, netbooks, oh my...

HUH? When's the last time a Symbian phone crashed after the first firmware update? Every WinMo device I've owned crashed regularly! Whether high end or low end, WinMo sucks because it needs good hardware to run decently. Symbian runs well of El Cheapo hardware, and with stability at that.

Do a test with WinMo and Symbian devices of similar RAM and processor class, and see how many apps you can run before the device begins to sputter and become useless. I promise WinMo won't keep up.

yayyyy so let me get this straight:

- 680 MHz A8 cortex CPU / 3.5 OLED,
-12 mega pixel camera carl zeiss optics,
- Xenon flash for my club photos,
- Dual led for video,
- Symbian stable platform yet always talked bad about,
- Nokia backing as i don't see why they get so much bad press what did they ever do to anyone, i thought they giving people what they want in this type of phone?,
- T-mobile 3g (good for me),

I guess at the end of the day even though i have my nexus one which i will keep us Americans follow the crowd. I couldn't agree with you more. I own an N82 and the OS is very stable, has good call quality, takes the best 5-mgapixel pics on a cell phone. Moreover, people don't realize that S^3 can run at BREW speeds. BREW runs fast and that's with a 300Mhz processor. Symbian going from ^1 to ^3 may just be an update, but it retains the core functionality (and adds more) without the losing anything in the process. It can still multitask like a pro, and can be customized to your hearts content, all done without higher-end specs like a Snapdragon processor, 512 RAM or ROM, and just 150MB of internal memory; the apps can be installed on Class 3 MSD cards for fast launching, albeit done without an external app like Apps2SD. Symbian is free, and you like Android, can pretty much do whatever the heck 'ya feel to it; mod it up, change it, custom themes (and fonts, so...yeah) etc. They even have SPB on the thing.

But frankly, if you feel that unless an OS pulls a WP7 and dumps the old variant to rewrite, then it sucks, then should probably go with WP7 then. Or just by an Android phone-of-the-week. I'm just saying that Symbian^3 has nothing that makes it stand out and it seems that there are still some of the touch quirks left over from Symbian^1. I am not sure about what is going on then. I thought a faster processor and of course more RAM will help this issue. I really liked my 5800 but ended up returning it due to all these issues. This one has a Cortex A8 at 680Mhz and twice the RAM and a PowerVR SGX GPU. Those specs are much better than the 5800. Actually, the multitasking is slightly better, as it is closer to maemo than webos. Webos you see one card at a tim and can cycle through, in S^3 there are multiple cards shown at once.
