I really hate that anyone gives ebook device makers any credit at all for "giving away" what is already in the public domain and free anyway. And quite frankly I'd prefer that ebook makers not load up devices with a bunch of crap that no one wants to read or that they have already read - how many times do I need to read Pride and Prejudice anyway? Public domain books on ereaders are the equivalent of the clutter of trial software you get when you buy a new PC. This is actually extremely common outside of e-readers. Next time you get your hands on a newspaper, go to one of the black-&-White pages and take a look at the picture. It looks like a pretty smooth gradient at a glance, but if you take a magnifying glass to it, you can see that only one shade of black was used to make the picture, and that the lighter sections just have fewer black dots. However, the dots even in the light gray sections are still the same color ink as the ink used in the darkest part of the page.]]>Apr 30th 2010 12:18PM
