And quite frankly I'd prefer that ebook makers not load up devices with a bunch of crap that no one wants to read or that they have already read - how many times do I need to read Pride and Prejudice anyway? Public domain books on ereaders are the equivalent of the clutter of trial software you get when you buy a new PC. Next time you get your hands on a newspaper, go to one of the black-&-White pages and take a look at the picture. It looks like a pretty smooth gradient at a glance, but if you take a magnifying glass to it, you can see that only one shade of black was used to make the picture, and that the lighter sections just have fewer black dots.
