Every year the desktop becomes more and more polished, to the point that people come to my house, I have a DLNA server running Ubuntu, and they check all the cool things that I am doing in linux and everyone just keeps on drooling...<br><br>My mom uses a netbook, just for browsing, chatting, viewing some documents and checking some media. I replaced XP with Ubuntu and I didnt get one complaint. April 29 had been designated as the release day a long time ago. The RC is unrelated, it came out a while ago. It's just that the Ubuntu website was a little slow in updating so the home page still had the RC on display. And also, LTS does not mean "final version". Every four releases is designated as LTS. That means Ubuntu developers will continue providing updates for it even after the next version (10.10 Maverick Meerkat) has been released so that corporate users or people on old hardware don't have to upgrade twice a year. I can tell just from my fan because Ubuntu rarely spins the fan up. I didn't need to install any drivers at all. Compared to 9.10 its a dream. I was running the netbook remix and was super happy but I switched to 7 to test it out and I haven't gone back. I guess no more random crashing but I HATE VLC player, it's slower for some reason. Windows 7 came out, i upgraded over my vista and the crashing stopped significantly. But once you got the hang of it, you should be fine. Windows is much user friendly than ubuntu.
