If you go into wikipedia and read about the rates in which this abominable internet content has grown you will be alarmed.

I am not saying a Great Firewall of China, but, I do think Internet Police at some point will be necessary. The modern evils will call for it: child pornography, identity theft, fraud, hacking, etc. (these have been around for quiet some time, but now, their impact is greater and they are growing fast)

tikiteko

Comments on

@Matt l

So many choices. I disagree with all of that stuff too but goodness I absolutely HATE government censorship. There are other ways of accomplishing the same things. It all starts out with "good intentions" (yeah right) then explodes into regulating anything they feel isn't good for you. This will turn into an encroachment on freedom of speech guaranteed. This will make it so if they wanted to they could sensor it just like TV and Radio and this isn't a good idea unless you like your internet homogenized and government approved.

Net Neutrality is a misnomer, it takes control from the masses (anarchy is as neutral and as free as you can get) and gives it to a few corporations that have the most lobbyists. Traffic throttling isn't even an issue because most companies that have done it stopped due to complaints. This law also wouldn't stop throttling but would allow government to mandate throttling if they wanted (when you had over control they can do anything.)

Rather than fix the real issue (anti-competition laws) we must pass a law to hand control of the internet to the FCC. Anyone that falls for this bullshit is blinded more by laws that sound nice than what's really going on. No child left behind left many behind and the patriot act wasn't patriotic just as net neutrality won't make the net neutral but rather centrally controlled and regulated. Regulations are almost never neutral because they mostly hurt those without lobbyists and last I checked the telecoms have a shit ton of those.

http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20100114/0752067755.shtml

Blake

Comments on

@TikiTeko
Hah!
