Google did not intend for the Nexus One to be a phone for the masses or to compete with other Android devices. If they wanted to compete, they would not have given their OS for free or allowed other companies to have the latest version. They would have sold their phones in physical stores and made sure they were the best. No, instead the Nexus One was made as a proof of concept--to show the world what could be done with the Android OS (which doesn't technically even belong to Google)--and to act as a standard reference point, so that every phone will be compared with the Nexus one just as every phone used to be compared to the iPhone. Google wants its "Google experience" to becomes the norm...just keep using Google services on your phone and the free Google goodies will keep on comin'. There are newer and better phones coming out, but is by *no means* "obsolete".

It is still very much competitive with other phones, and is in my opinion the best phone I have ever owned. I've had smartphones for years, and they've all had major shortcomings. This is the first smartphone I've had that continually runs rock solid reliably, and provides me with an excellent user experience.

I love my Nexus One.

I was exaggerating a bit. Which is a shame, because all of HTC;'s other phones have that Sense crap on it. The only "Google Experience" phones you can now get are the original HTC Dream (G1), Motorola Milestone (Droid) and Nexus One. The next google branded smartphone will come out quarter 1 2011, it will be called "google^2" and made by Sony Erickson.

They are going to try to make a yearly flagship device to avoid cannibalizing their google branded smartphone line, but will allow other device manufacturers to utilize Android OS nonetheless just not under the google^(#) product name. They are going to try to separate the google^(#) phone name from the other android phones and release a new one yearly similar to Apple's product release cycle but in Q1 each year. To beat Apple to the punch I suppose and to create a brand name worthy of months of speculation and free press every year.

Please quote me on this. Honestly I was told this from someone inside the business. ( I know you all have heard that before, but just take note if nothing else)

Yeah I thought so too. What I was told was that sony erickson nabbed the spot from moto recently.

Google has always said beginning at the launch of the N1 that there would be more "Google Phones" than just the N1... that the N1 was just the beginning and that there would be a series of phones.
