If the network packets are encrypted, reverse engineer the windows side driver.<br><br>Once reverse engineered, GPL the code and post it in so many places that its impossible to shut it down. If one's HTPC is used as file sharing, 3 channels on HDHR cablecard, and 2 channels on original HDHR, that is a lot of traffic over the wire.  I'm sure gigabit can handle it, but getting the NIC to handle that may require tweaking (if possible) and more CPU load.<br><br>Sure, one can buy another NIC, but that is an extra cost and available slots are a premium these days. The cool thing is the HDHR will work with an APIPA (169.254.x.x) and crosses over automatically so you don't even have to configure the extra Nic. It worked well enough, however at the end of the day I decided that cable blows and I'd cancel my account, sell the card and be happy.<br><br>When I look at these, I think, hey maybe I'll give it another shot... but then I remember you still have to rent the card from the cable company, for the same price as a set top box, and you won't have access to any on demand options.<br><br>All this jumping through hoops to pay more than I want for channels I don't watch.<br><br>Cable is a joke, coupled with the joke of cablecards.<br><br>TV just isn't worth it.<br><br>I will never look at another cable company, satellite company, or media provider in general unless I get everything available with no restrictions on what I play it on, or ala cart options that don't rape your wallet. <br><br>Television and the companies in control of it are outdated, and it's time for a change. I don't want to hear about it if I have to wait 6 months to get it, even assuming the stated delivery date is true.  Six months out, it's obviously not ready, otherwise they would say maybe two months, so there may be plenty of unexpected problems with the design that arise after you've made vague claims of availability. They are getting the date out there in anticipation of ceton's tuner releasing in a couple weeks.  We knew SD was coming out with one, but knowing it's relatively soon may cause some people to wait for a known & well respected company's device over an unknown Ceton (nothing against them, but they don't have SD's reputation yet).<br><br>Personally, I'd never use 4 tuners at once, so 150 bucks savings & getting an external tuner.. The device dishes out tuners on a first come first serve basis, but it essentially means you can watch live TV on any PC in your house, as long as another PC hasn't already claimed both (or in this case all three) tuners. CableLabs currently requires the "device" to be "owned" by one computer. There have been questions asked about changing this requirement which would allow you to split/share the tuner among other machines, but right now you can't.<br><br>If CableLabs changes the restriction, but this and the Ceton would work the same way and allow splitting tuners between computers. Just how much flexibility you'd have remains to be seen after the rules are changed. That means any device you have with more than two tuners loses the third.<br><br>The alternative is not to use a tuning adapter and you'll get all your tuners but no SDV channels.
