(And in terms of price for something that light, possibly not till the dawn of the netbook.) Graphics... well, I think I may have had a Space Invaders game that worked on it. :-)

My desktop computer at the time was the sibling of Ross's laptop above, a Zenith Z-158 (its 8088 could run an 8MHz turbo mode nearly *twice* the speed of a stock IBM PC!) that was also available as a Heathkit. It broke, so I upgraded to the 160 (4-bit greyscale!), and IIRC it had a video out so I could plug in my very heavy Mac color monitor. I had a PowerPort Silver modem that I installed myself with a Torx 8 or 10 screwdriver that I bought maybe from Fry's (and still have). I couldn't afford the PowerPort Gold (14400) so I got 9600 baud with the silver. I still have that PB160 in a box and it still boots Mac OS 7, though the screen doesn't work all that well anymore.

My first PC notebook was the spectacularly small Compaq Aero 4/33c.
