Because WebOS CAN ACTUALLY run on x86 platforms...as demonstrated in this article...Why wouldn't you? Moorestown is quite a bit ahead it terms of performance, and if Intel's claims is to be trusted (and I don't see a reason why they would jeopardize their reputation), then the battery life is on par with the likes of Snapdragon or A4...and given the huge amount of content developed over the years for x86, I would say many FUNCTIONAL and USEFUL application can be more efficiently developed for Moorestown than an ARM-based platform. By the way are far as their reputation goes, you do realize they recently handed over $1B to AMD for antitrust issues<br><br>as far as Tegra 2, I wasn't aware they were using Cortex A9, still like I said a more likely candidate is the OMAP4 which has gotten a lot less marketing but will be similarly powerful with a Cortex A9 core(s). Thus, an unaltered 1GHz Cortex A8 will actually be faster than snap dragon at 1GHz. Snapdragon's design allows it to be scaled to 1.5+ GHz but clock per clock it is slower than any Cortex A8 device.<br>Apple A4 and Ti 3640 will both be faster than Snapdragon at 1 GHz.  PRE has already shown that it will run very fast at 800 MHz (overclocked Ti 3440). A 1 GHz Cortex A8 (Ti3640) would indeed make time to market for a webOS pad much smaller as it is the same chip as the older 3440 just running at a faster speed.<br><br>I am realy looking forward to OMPA4 which uses a cortex A9 process (clock per clock faster than A8 by about 20%) and able to achieve higher clock rates than 1GHz at a smaller power requirement. <br><br>An OMAP 4 device will be faster and more energy efficient than Cortex A8 designs e.g. Apple A4 (which by all signs is just a clock speed bump on Samsungs A8 based design (with some manufacturing tweaks to make it run at 1GHZ at a lower power draw)). User interfaces all use the web technologies we know and love, which means they are very flexible. (The app itself doesn't need to exert much control to get a usable UI). Any app already squeezes smoothly onto the Pixi's screen, for example.<br><br>Granted, they would probably want to do something _more_ with all the screen space on a tablet.<br><br>It seems that the fixed size UI thing is just Apple's problem. I can't imagine what they were thinking.<br>Microsoft seems to be avoiding this with Windows 7 Phone, and Android has as well. It is open source so it doesn't matter if the market will accept a boot-loader application because you can just design your own application store.<br><br>To your other point, yes, it is extremely important to have the ability to install multiple operating systems on different phones. The Original commenter mentioned the N1 and that is a great example. It will give the N1 users something else to look forward to, and experience. Having the ability to install another operating system on a phone gives the user the ability to choose what they want to use. The OS image must be compiled for x86 to run on a PC.
