It's actually pretty useful in some apps, especially photo gallery apps. It's one of those things that once you live with it for a bit you find your poking non-touch screens by accident.

In order for a touch screen to be effective the OS has to be designed for touch input from the ground up. I didn't used to think this way, I used to wish for a full version of OS X on the iPad, or even a windows 7 tablet.
