Everything on a phone is a comprimise with battery life. The battery life on the hd2 is acceptable, but it could be amazing with a smaller but usable screen. It all comes down to what your priorities are. And at least for me, battery life is a number 1 priority on a portable phone. A blackberry has great battery life but lacks usability. It is indisputable that a phone with a smaller screen and slower processor will have greater battery life (assuming it has the same os). A phone with an average screen and processor but better battery life is better than a phone with average battery life with a great screen and overkill processor.
