As at&t doesn't have a 4G network and probably wont until at least next year (what will probably be an LTE network) it will probably be a 3G phone (called the HD i'm betting). What I don't understand is why virtually every tech site and news outlet continues to call it the iPhone 4G despite this misnomer (seeing that their is no reason to believe it is a 4G phone, even the CDMA chips that are supposedly being developed for other networks are based on 3G technology and not 4G.

prestochango

Comments on

@prestochango

4G as in it's the 4th generation iPhone.

-iPhone = 1G
-iPhone 3G= 2G
-iPhone 3GS = 3G
-iPhone ??? = 4G

Seeing as how we don't have a name for it yet, most are just calling it the "iPhone 4G" because it is the 4th generation device. Here's a little more info, though.

The only "4G" service out right now or relatively soon is Sprint's WiMax 4G, which gets 10mb down. And, I'd also like to add that 4G is a scam, but you'll find out why right now. Both, T-Mobile and at&t have launched hsdpa 7.2, which, as the name implies, has 7.2mb down speeds. Which means the difference between at&t 3G speeds and Sprint's 4G is 3mb. So, really, it's no big deal at all to call the iPhone, the iPhone 4G, because at&t's 3G network right about reaches the same speed as WiMax. AT&T's real 4G (LTE) will launch next year and it's been reported to double it's current 3G speed. That is something I'd be picky about fixing, not so much, 7.2mb down vs 10mb down. Shit, even T-Mobile said they can boost their 3G network to twice the speed of Sprint's 4G.

Cold Dead Fingers

Comments on

@huzzlehoff nice one!
