No need for a smartphone, until all 4 carriers offer non-subsidized data/voice plans for people who either purchase their own phones or complete their 2-year agreement. Yes, I understand that T-Mobile has an unsubsidized plan available, with unlimited voice, text, and data for actually $75/month + your standard applicable taxes that will bump your monthly costs to nearly $90. Still expensive compared to the minor carriers (that vary their service depending on the city that you live in), and the other 3-major carriers are taking too long to do much, especially AT&T and Verizon.

Personally, I wished that as a start all 4-carriers had similar plans as T-Mobile, and then continue to be more competitive to drive new customers in.
