Gartner also says that smartphones will go up 100% though, which has happened pretty much year on year for Apple - 6 million iPhones 2007, 14 million 2008, 24 million 2009, 50 million projected 2010. If it's 50 million iPod Touches too, that's a total share of 190 million units. The iPad will likely be around 5-10 million.<br><br>It's true that only comes close to 2009 PC shipments of 260 million but it's a big enough audience to sway an industry one way or another. No content providers in their right minds would ignore an audience of close to 200 million, especially when the audience is far more engaged with their personal device than a PC.<br><br>@fpad77 "you are working under the assumption that these other technologies are going to stand still.<br><br>Oh, hi there html-5, I see you've got quite a few issues with agreements over video formats, web standard support, gpu acceleration."<br><br>HTML 5 has no issues over GPU acceleration, developers are free to implement it as Apple have done and Microsoft have done in IE9. The disagreements over video are just from Mozilla who don't want to offload video decoding to the OS like everybody else.<br><br>H.264 is no worse than DVD format and controlled by the same people, I don't hear anyone protesting that we should drop DVD or Blu-Ray for some other standard. The H.264 places no license restrictions on personal use. Only freetards have an issue with it because it doesn't have a penguin logo in it.<br><br>On the subject of the technologies moving forward, they won't bring anything beyond interacting with graphics. This is to say websites will be nothing more than rich internet applications.<br><br>Also just for the record Adobe's competing product for Silverlight is not flash as everyone assumes...it's Flex. I would never deny that Apple is a global player and they definitely have a lot of weight with the consumers and with the developers too. The only real interesting things coming out of Microsoft lately are the things that are no longer coming out of Microsoft like Courier. And they did kind of ask about that shake up. <br><br>There really just isn't a whole lot of interesting news surrounding Microsoft at this point. Don't think I've heard that before. OS X isn't.
