Mac mini supply said to be dwindling, world wonders 'why?'
Need a bit more evidence that Apple has some new Mac minis on the way? Then look no further than Apple Insider, which says that it has "verified four times over" that current Mac mini supplies are running dry, and that new models are all but a certainty. Adding further weight to the story is the fact that these aren't simply reports of delays here and there, but reports from large buyers like educational institutions who say that they've either been advised not to place bulk orders for Mac minis or had their orders pushed back -- in one case to an exact date of June 14th. Needless to say, that all seems to line up nicely, and sounds more than a little familiar. Maybe too familiar?

more like mac shitty....heh?
@brookey86 If you're going to make a joke or snark, put confidence into it. Make yourself sound confident. Make it yours. Don't half ass it and add a little "...heh?". At least you didn't add "Get it? Get it?"
Try again. But with more confidence. And you can do better than "Mac Shitty".
@Fragmented Actually it would be "stop the presses, a company is selling more than it is making of a product".
@Fragmented No it doesn't, it more than likely means that they are making less of the Mac Mini.
@d0mth0ma5
This may be off-topic, but ... Hey, Aol... screw your damn survey pop-ups. I can't believe websites in this century still use those stupid ass things. Does anyone ever even fill them out?
On topic, I would like to buy a Mac mini, but the price needs to drop. $450-$500 would be good.
@lamerz
Why would you pay money for hooking a box to your machine pretending to have a different OS?
For 200 bucks I'll hook an empty juice box to your machine and draw an apple on it too!
@Jokoli I have re-read your post quite a few times and have no idea what you mean? Elaboration? Please.
@Jokoli Can I get a "what the fuck"???
@lamerz Consider it done.
@Fragmented
um
excuse me the mac mini is awesome and in my opinion looks the coolest
@Teslanaut No, he can't! (...heh?)!
Why for the Mac Mini or why for the power supply?
The former question's the harder to answer.
This and AppleTV should just be one product.

@Colours
YUP!..
@Colours
you just might get your way. pray it doesn't go any further than that.
you know, suddenly, microsoft seems like the good guy, and this is freaking me out a little bit.
@Colours Dude, yes! Someone get this guy some internets.
@Fragmented
If Apple wants this whole thing to be successful, they need to come out with a device that acts as a DVR too. I don't use the DVR from my cable company. I have a Media Center computer that records EVERYTHING.
If Apple combines a media recorder into this package of Mac Mini + Apple TV, they might have a larger chance of success.
@Colours
+2 internetz..
@Mike10010100
So, if Apple came out with the Mac Mini as a DVR, you would buy it?
I'm going to go with no. So then, why would Apple listen to the advice of someone that plans on never buying what they sell?
@redhineymonkey: If Apple came out with a Mac Mini media center at $500, it would be the first Apple product I'd have bought since the 1st-gen G3 iMac.
@redhineymonkey
Jeezuz man! So because I'm not going to buy one because I ALREADY HAVE A MEDIA CENTER RECORDER, I can't give any advice?
You really have a vendetta against me. Although, I suppose I should be flattered that I have my own nemesis. ROFL. Seriously, get over yourself.
Yes people, when Apple refreshes a line of their computers, it is indeed news. When are all the Mac haters going to get over this?
@groberts1980 Not really, not since they started focusing on other things. My prediction is that in 5-10 years, Apple won't even sell traditional general-purpose computers anymore.
@Realityism Interesting theory. What would they sell if they quit selling computers for the home user?
I don't even own a Mac, but like it or not, it is (somewhat) news when they refresh their lineup. It's just a product of them not selling 50 different computers, but keeping it limited.
@Realityism
And graphic designers, cad designers, accountants, developers, desktop publishers, gamers and movie watchers are supposed to use what, an iPhone?
@Fragmented Is there an echo on this post?
@Realityism
"My prediction is that in 5-10 years, Apple won't even sell traditional general-purpose computers anymore"
That very much depends on what general-purpose for computers was 5-10 years ago, what it is currently and what it will or might be in 5-10 years. Some might stick to using fully featured PCs and some might decide that i.e. a tablet (since we have just entered this new aera) does what they feel is enough for them.
ENGADGET. SERIOUSLY? THIS IS NEWS?
@ajwoodhouse THIS IS SPARTAN!
(referring to the quantity of goods left on the Mac Mini shelves at the warehouse, naturally).
@Fragmented
what a bunch of morons around here. Apple refreshes their products, oh, once a year? It gets an article. Fine. So how often does a new laptop from Dell, HP, Acer, Asustek, ETC, ETC get an article? The answer is ALMOST EVERY DAY. Somehow that's news, but once a year isn't
Are you serious? If it was announcements or even updates fine but every rumor, speculation, jobs email........
I think they should add an HDMI port to the new model...
@John Locke So you can plug it into your TV. Duh.
@John Locke Totally wrong!!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI 1.3 up'd the total through put to 340MHz to allow 2560x1600, the same as display port. Hdmi is universally used with HDTVs and the 1.4 will bring the specification for dual 1080p for 3D. Not to mention the long running stance that hdmi has had dolby digital audio. Display port only got it this april whereas the vast majority dont have audio. Apple just doesnt want to pay the premium for an hdmi. Its really like putting an HDDVD on your laptop, although its dead(kept china).
@John Locke
to hook it up to a tv, which is also 1080p max. is that not obvious?
If they don't change the design this time, they failed...
@CHICHIgetdaYAYO How would you suggest they change the design? It's a fairly attractive box. Unless they go the aluminium route and bring out a Mac Mini Pro
I'm wondering "why not"?
Who cares? 100 bucks says it will be a slight CPU bump (Still C2D obviously) and 320M chipset with a 250GB hdd. Minor update not worth mentioning.
@John Locke
Agreed, it's specs are fine for it's purposes, just lower the price and I might actually buy one.
Not bad...for an grossly overpriced nettop with no interesting features.
LOL. No HDMI. C'mon Apple.
I'll buy one if it has a good Nvidia graphics card equivalent to something like a 240m.
This thing has a better chance of being on an end-of-life basis than an update. Same goes for the MacBook, and MacBook Air.
WHY?... WHY?? TELL THEM THAT IT'S HUMAN NATURE!! TELL THEM!! THAT.
@Sniggih
Loooking ouuut.....
I want to see a slight speed bump and 4GB RAM as standard on the base model. Then I will likely buy one, even at its current price point. I'm desperate for a desktop mac but buying one less powerful than my MBP seems a bit pointless. And I sure as hell can't afford a mac pro.
Why are people acting like Apple isn't a household name in technology amongst us geeks as well as everybody else? Of course they have to cover this stuff. Keep it going engadget!
@John Locke
Please show me any other product that put this much performance into such a small package. It is hard to say it's overprice when it's the only of it's kind.
@John Locke
Apple - Please, for the love of God, just listen to John Locke. Don't be like Jack Shepard. You know John will be right in the end, anyway ... so just lower the fucking price already!
